There two kinds of prophecy in the Bible, one is Classical (or typical) prophecy which commonly deals with immediate events or issues. In this context the Book of Revelation is not a mere tour guide to the last days but a reminder that Christ has already sealed the victory. Most modern scholars estimate that the Book of Revelation was composed sometime between 90 and A.D., likely toward the end of the reign of Domitian (Roman emperor from A.D.).
The very early suggestion that the fourth empire was Greece, attributed to the Sibylline Oracles (Book iii, line ) which appeared shortly after the Maccabean period in the second century B.C., is cited by Rowley as evidence of early interpretation that the fourth empire was Greece. Rowley also cites a number of other writers who support. Rashi, a medieval rabbi, interpreted the four kingdoms as Nebuchadnezzar ("you are the head of gold"), Belshazzar ("another kingdom lower than you"), Alexander of Macedon ("a third kingdom of copper"), and the Roman Empire ("and in the days of these kings").
Rashi explains that the fifth kingdom that God will establish is the kingdom of the messiah.
